The story of Mini Peregrine X

Mini Peregrine X

Introducing the Mini Peregrine X, a proper undersized yoyo featuring bimetal performance. A small and fun yoyo with almost no compromise in performance.

Every yoyofriends yoyo has a purpose and this one is no exception. We want to make an undersized yoyo that maximizes performance. To tackle this, we used 3 previous models in our lineup as inspiration. First, we need a base design for this yoyo, since our goal is to maximize performance, we need to pick one of our best performing yoyos. The peregrine X is a no brainer for this one, simplistic and elegant design yet effective, a perfect base. We took some design queues like the overall construction, cup, and ring design of the peregrine X on this yoyo.

Second, we need to figure out the spec of the yoyo. To better understand that, we used our previous undersized yoyo, mini Hummingbird, as a reference. We feel the yoyo is great but not strikingly undersized in diameter, so we decided to go smaller. However, we feel like in order to have a modern comp performance, we need to make this yoyo have a wider catch zone. We then feel like due to decreased diameter, we need more overall weight to counteract the power loss. After considering all this, we decided roughly on the spec of the yoyo.

Finally, we want some extra power and uniqueness into the yoyo. We looked into our other undersized yoyo, SS Koi. What makes the SS Koi special is the utilization of D bearing. We found out that D bearing increases the overall power of the yoyo while giving a unique feel. Since this yoyo is undersized, adding that extra power will help. We decided to also utilize the D bearing for mini peregrine X.

With the design and construction inspired by Peregrine X, spec tweaked based on the Mini Hummingbird and using D bearing like the SS koi, we made our first prototype.

The result is mine blowing, the yoyo handles just about anything with ease. It has the spin power, stability of a comp yoyo while being undersized and fine. Due to the increased catch zone, landing tricks are not super hard either. What amazes us the most is the capability of this yoyo while in a horizontal combo. The only thing we feel is not adequate is the bind. So for prototype 2, we changed nothing besides the gap width. After prototype 2, the bind is now much better. We then decided to go to production.

Mini Peregrine X is our newest undersized yoyo with unprecedented performance. Utilizing the D bearing it excels at power, stability, agility, horizontal and all aspects of playability. Truly achieving almost a competition level of performance in a small yoyo.
