The idea of Armageddon started around October of 2024. One of our yoyofriends player, Yahoo (Hy Dang) recommended a yoyo being even wider than the Ultracut for ease of use.

After some internal discussions with the player team and the manufacturing team, we thought it is a good idea and decided to make this idea into reality. To start the project, we asked the players what would be a great width and diameter combo for this project. We know if a yoyo is too large it might not be super friendly for tech tricks. The player team decided that 57mm diameter by 53mm width would be the sweet spot. Making the yoyo full and wide without it feeling too oversized. One thing we want to tackle is acceleration and speed, which define most of the yoyofriends high performance yoyos.

To tackle this, we started with a simple V profile. The fastest shape for a yoyo. Then we picked the classic convex parabola hub in the center. It ensures optimal weight distribution right above the axle while keeping the center hub weight low. Lastly for the rim design, we went with a more subtle approach. The rim weight is spread evenly from the start of the rim to the edge. Giving the yoyo a less jarring feel. Since the profile wall is very thin due to the use of 7068 aluminum, we can still make the rim very thick and large. Giving the yoyo a striking look. The first prototype is then made.

The yoyo played very well, it felt very easy and fast to accelerate while being decently powerful. We can feel the ease of use when doing zoning and body tricks. We are very happy with the result. A minor flaw we found is the rim is slightly too sharp, sometimes it might not feel comfortable binding when the yoyo is still spinning super fast. For the prototype 2 we made the outer edge area more rounded. Another area we feel like we can do better is power. With the competition yoyo going heavier for longer combos, we decided to increase the weight by around 1 gram. From around 65.6g to 66.6g. We also wanted to try something new, using 7075 as material instead of 7068 to experiment and potentially lowering the cost. After all the tweaks to the design was made, the prototype 2 was made.

The yoyo played well, but sadly did not improve over prototype 1 in terms of play. The rim became more comfortable, but there is a decrease in power and stability even with the added weight. Which does not meet the criteria on the direction we want to go. We found out due to rounding out the outside edge, we decreased the rim weight distribution. So for prototype 3, we changed the material back to 7068. We made the profile wall even thinner and the rim even thicker to offset the lost weight distribution on the rounded rim. We also made the weight around 66.1g to potentially make the yoyo accelerate and move even faster.

The 3rd prototype finally surpassed the prototype 1. It has more power, speed and acceleration while having a comfortable rim. We are happy with the final result and greenlit this version of the yoyo for production.

The naming of the yoyo is inspired by Kpop. Some of the yoyofriends members are a fan of Kpop and one of Yahoo (Hy Dang)'s favorite Kpop group is Aespa. Aespa has an album and song called Armageddon. In the song lyric, Armageddon is paraphrased as I'ma get 'em done. This is one of our philosophies. Whatever the players request yoyo wise to make them succeed, we will try our best to get it done.

We hope you enjoy Armageddon, our full sized, meta competition monometal yoyo derived from the player's request. Ushing in a new era of competition driven monometals in the yoyofriends' lineup.
