Introducing the yoyofriends Pacer, our budget 60mm wide monometal focused on consistency and pacing. This project started abit after our proposed 62mm wide bimetal, Recoil. Instead of going almost all out on a super wide bimetal, we want to do an affordable monometal. The inspiration of Pacer started with our budget 50mm monometal, Ultracut. Ultracut is one of our best sellers, bringing one of the highest value to performance options in the yoyoing scene.

For the initial design, we first picked 6061 for value. Then we utilized the cup and the rim design of Ultracut. These two designs are safe and balanced. The center weight isn't too little and the rim design isn't the most extreme. With a step after the most outer part of the rim.

For the profile, we used the same amount of steps as ultracut. However, we completely revamped the shape to be more V/W instead of slightly more H. Hoping to achieve more speed and consistency.

For the diameter, we picked 58mm. The reason being a bit larger is because of it being monometal and so wide. It needs all the diameter to shift the rim weight away from the center point for more power and stability. Then it's the weight. We picked a generous 68 g to further help with the power and stability. With all the design ready. The prototype 1 is made.

Now it's time for player testing. It had mixed reviews from the player team. We think overall the yoyo is a bit fun and flowy, but it lags behind in more intense combos. We also found that the yoyo, although powerful, is still not as stable as we hoped. This isn't quite up to our usual high standards. Even some yoyofriends' players think we should ditch this project and rethink the profile shape entirely. The manu team however thinks this design has the potential. They then proceeded to fully utilize their manufacturing prowess by shaving the wall thinner and shifting the entire saved weight into the rim. The rim now is fully filled with no steps.

We achieved this while making the yoyo ever so slightly lighter for more acceleration and speed to reduce the sluggishness from the player feedback. Prototype 2 is then made.

The prototype 2 although looks very similar, but the performance is night and day compared to prototype 1. It instantly became one of our favorite prototypes in this batch. The yoyo is much more stable, powerful and even faster. It now can even handle long horizontal combos with ease. This is one of the projects where we see a massive performance difference without a major tweak, like the entire profile of the yoyo. With all the player team praising it, we greenlit yoyo into production.

One outstanding property of this yoyo is the sustained power overtime. Making it perfect for prolonged combos. The yoyo is also not super aggressive, it gives the player the sense of reliability for a long period of time instead of just the beginning. We named this yoyo Pacer. Inspired by a pacer runner in a marathon. Which perfectly matches the characteristics of the yoyo.

We hope you enjoy Pacer, our budget and value answer to the current wide competition yoyo meta. A yoyo with exceptional performance throughout your longest combos.
