The Story of Intercut

Introducing the yoyofriends intercut, a tri-material design based on the papercut. Intercut focuses on the performance aspect of papercut with added fun and flow from the sandwiched PC ring. The cut series is one of our most successful lines of yoyos. It brings unprecedented performance to a wide group of yoyoers at a friendly price.

For this project we want to remove the budget factor. Maximizing performance and fun together. It has the iconic wide SS ring on the outside. These 2 metrics are basically polar opposite of each other. Our solution is to utilize a tri-material design. Using 7075 aluminum, polycarbonate, and stainless steel. Placing the PC in the middle to maximize its effect. For the base design of the yoyo, we picked papercut. Papercut is one of the highest performing yoyos in the cut series. We think implementing the tri-material idea will solve the performance vs fun problem.

Then we set up the specification parameters. We just want to enhance the fun factor on the papercut, so we did not go full competition spec on this yoyo. We only increased the diameter by a little to almost reach 56mm. The width was only increased 3-4mm because of the middle PC ring. The weight is now upped to around 65.5g. Still pretty light in today's standard. We made sure the PC ring is thick enough so it's durable. A problem some yoyo friends' players said to look out for. Then the prototype was made.

Just spec wise on paper, the yoyo isn't super impressive. Even some players are against this project. However, when the players received the prototype. Everyone was blown away. Not only does the yoyo have the performance exceeding the papercut, it also has character. The flow and fun factor has increased. One of our players, Stephen, said it is one of his favorite yoyos of all time. We then greelit the project for production.

For the name. We decided to stick with the cut suffix format. We picked the name intercut. One of the meanings is cutting two or more scenes alternately. For this yoyo, the material goes from aluminum to PC to SS. Mirroring the meaning of intercut. The logo has both white and black engraving throughout the word for a contrast between metal and PC.
