The Tachyon II is the updated version of Tachyon. We want to start this project because with the competition yoyo getting heavier and wider, lighter and pure speed yoyo has been in the shadows. Tachyon is the fastest yoyo in terms of top speed and acceleration in yoyofriend's lineup. We want to bring it back as a more modern spec so people can also enjoy the sheer speed better.
To upgrade, we have to understand the philosophy first. The reason Tachyon is so fast is a combination of low center weight, V/H shape for added stability and ultra low weight.
Now it's time to plan the upgrade. We want to keep the overall weight low. We decided on a modest weight target of around 62 ish grams. Ensuring this yoyo will be fast. As for the center hub, it is already the lowest possible center weight design in our arsenal, so we kept it. For the width. We think a 4mm increase to 48mm will make it somewhat comp viable without losing too much stability and speed. One thing we want to improve on the Tachyon is also the stability. Even if it sacrifices abit of speed and acceleration, more stability can prevent the yoyo from tilting during a longer speed. To make this happen, we have increased the diameter and rim weight slightly. This ensures a controlled experience during sustained high speed in both vertical and horizontal situations. Finally, the gap width is increased to 4.52mm for a tight bind while catering to a thicker string. We proceeded to make prototype 1.
The prototype is then sent to the yoyofriends player team to try. The players really like how powerful and stable the yoyo feel despite being very light. We tested back and forth between the original Tachyon and the prototype. Although pure speed and acceleration has slightly decreased, the power stability and the confidence to sustain the yoyo at a high speed has drastically increased. We then greenlit this yoyo for production.
Tachyon II is an upgraded version of Tachyon. The ultimate speed and acceleration yoyo in our lineup. Bringing more confidence in your speed combo both vertically and horizontally.
